Tinnitus Distress
**Session availability for CBT-T starts the week of March 23**
Do you hear constant ringing, buzzing, or other persistent sounds in your ears that interfere with sleep, focus, or daily life? Even if the sound itself isn’t harmful, it can be distracting, stressful, and exhausting.
Over time, tinnitus can make it harder to concentrate, relax, or enjoy quiet moments.
In our work together, you do not have to explain or justify your frustration with tinnitus. I provide a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore how the sound affects your life and develop strategies to reduce its emotional impact. Counseling can help you feel more in control, reduce distress, and improve how you manage daily activities.
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for tinnitus-related distress, an evidence-based approach shown to help people cope with the emotional effects of persistent sounds. In plain language, we look at how your thoughts, attention, and reactions influence how bothersome the sound feels, and we practice practical strategies to reduce that distress. Together, we may:
-
Explore your reactions to the sound and identify thoughts that make it feel worse
-
Practice relaxation, mindfulness, and grounding exercises to reduce tension
-
Learn ways to shift attention away from the ringing without ignoring it completely
-
Develop coping strategies for sleep, work, and social situations
-
Introduce small changes in routines or environment to reduce stress triggers
-
Work toward habituation, gradually learning to notice the sound without it dominating your attention or disrupting your life
Research suggests that many people notice meaningful improvements within 6–10 sessions, and these strategies are designed to help you feel more in control, reduce distress, and live more comfortably with tinnitus. While the sound may remain, CBT can make it feel less disruptive over time.
