Providing confidential telehealth counseling support throughout Missouri.
First Responder Check-Ins
I provide mandated mental health check-ins and supportive counseling for Missouri peace officers, law enforcement personnel, firefighters, EMS professionals, and other first responders who are required under RSMo 590.192 to complete a wellness check-in every three to five years.

If you are being asked to complete a mental health check-in, you may have mixed feelings about it. You might see it as another requirement to get through, or you may wonder what it actually involves and how confidential it really is. My goal is to make this process straightforward, respectful, and genuinely useful to you.
I come to this work as a clinician and as the spouse of a law enforcement officer. I understand the rhythm of this life. I have lived with the schedules, the missed holidays, the late nights, the overtime, the worry that comes with the work, and the way stress can quietly follow you home. That perspective shapes how I approach these check-ins, with respect for the culture and without assumptions.
Your check-in is a confidential space to pause and take stock of how you are doing. You do not have to perform, justify, or explain yourself. You will not be asked to relive calls or disclose anything you are not comfortable sharing. The focus is on practical wellness education and giving you tools that can actually help with the day-to-day stress of the job.
During our time together, we typically talk about things that matter to your functioning and quality of life, such as sleep, stress levels, emotional awareness, and how work impacts your relationships at home. We focus on recognizing early signs of burnout, managing tension and irritability, improving sleep despite shift work, and finding small, realistic ways to take care of yourself in a demanding profession. Many officers find it helpful simply to have space to process what they have been carrying and to leave with a few clear takeaways they can use right away.

Everything shared during your check-in is protected by law. Leadership will only be notified that you completed the requirement. The content of your session remains confidential and is not used in administrative, civil, or criminal proceedings, except in very limited circumstances such as imminent safety concerns or mandatory reporting.
Whether this check-in is simply a requirement or a doorway to additional support, my role is to meet you where you are and offer a calm, professional space that respects both you and the work you do.
