Providing confidential telehealth counseling support throughout Missouri.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Who do you work with?
I work with adults who are used to handling a lot and don’t always have space to step back. This includes individuals navigating ongoing stress, pressure, and overwhelm...whether that comes from work, family life, or simply being the one others rely on.
Many of the people I work with are first responders and federal law enforcement professionals, as well as their spouses and partners. I also support individuals managing full households, including homeschool parents, stay-at-home moms, and those carrying the day-to-day responsibility of keeping everything running. You don’t have to fit a specific role to benefit from counseling. If you’re someone who follows through, takes responsibility, and keeps going even when you’re worn down, this space is for you.

2. What kinds of issues can you help with?
I help clients with:
-
Stress and anxiety management
-
Sleep difficulties, including insomnia
-
Tinnitus-related distress
-
Relationship and couples challenges
-
Work-life balance and secondary trauma
We focus on practical, evidence-based strategies that you can use in daily life, tailored to your unique situation.

3. How is your counseling approach different?
I use evidence-based methods, explained in everyday terms, including techniques from CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), DBT (skills for emotional regulation), solution-focused strategies, and trauma-informed approaches. We focus on skills you can apply immediately, from stress management and better sleep routines to coping with work-related pressures and improving communication at home.

4. Are sessions confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is my top priority. Everything you share is confidential, and sessions are not shared with employers, family, or anyone outside our work together unless required by law for safety concerns. This is especially important for mandated wellness check-ins for first responders, which comply with Missouri statute RSMo 590.192: your employer only receives confirmation that you completed the check-in, not the content of the session.

5. I’m a first responder. What is a mental health check-in?
A mental health check-in is a brief, confidential session designed to assess your overall wellness and provide practical strategies for managing stress, improving sleep, and supporting your mental health. These sessions are non-evaluative and non-disciplinary. They focus on education and support rather than judgment.

6. Can this work alongside peer support programs?
Absolutely. My sessions complement peer support, rather than replace it. Many clients use both: peer support for connection and camaraderie, and counseling for practical, confidential skills and stress management strategies.

7. How long do sessions usually last?
-
Individual counseling: Typically 45–50 minutes. Goals are evaluated regularly to observe progress.
-
Insomnia-focused sessions: Usually 6-12 weekly sessions, based on research protocols.
-
Tinnitus distress support: Usually 8-12 sessions, focusing on habituation techniques and coping strategies.
-
Mandated mental health check-ins: Usually 30 minutes, focused on wellness education.

8. What can I expect in counseling?
You can expect a safe, nonjudgmental space to talk about what’s on your mind. We’ll focus on practical strategies for managing stress, improving sleep, navigating emotional challenges, and strengthening relationships. Many clients also find it helpful to process what they’ve been carrying and leave with clear, actionable takeaways.

9. How do you work with couples?
I provide counseling for couples facing stress, communication challenges, or emotional distance. This includes first responder and military couples, but is open to anyone. We focus on rebuilding understanding, managing conflict, improving communication, and strengthening connection, using practical, research-backed techniques that are easy to apply in daily life.

10. Do you only work with first responders and military families?
No. While I bring lived experience and cultural insight from these communities, my counseling services are open to anyone navigating stress, anxiety, sleep difficulties, tinnitus distress, or relationship challenges.

11. How do I schedule an appointment?
You can contact me through the website or email to schedule a session.

12. Can I use insurance for my sessions?
I work as a private-pay provider to ensure confidentiality, flexibility, and uninterrupted care. I can provide a superbill, which is a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Please note that superbills generally require a diagnosis code, and reimbursement is not guaranteed. Clients are responsible for paying for sessions in full at the time of service, regardless of insurance reimbursement. This approach allows you to keep sessions private while still giving the option to pursue out-of-network benefits.

13. Why do you only take private pay?
I work exclusively with private-pay clients to ensure confidentiality, flexibility, and uninterrupted care. Many clients, especially first responders and military families, value that their sessions remain completely private, without insurance involvement or required documentation for third parties. This approach allows me to focus entirely on your needs, your goals, and practical support, rather than navigating insurance approvals or limitations.
